Antabuse (Disulfiram) is a medication that is used to treat chronic alcoholism. It causes painful effectsresults} when even small amount of alcohol are taken. Disulfiram results include headache, nausea, chest pain, flushing of the face, mental confusion, vomiting, weakness, breathing difficulty, blurred vision, sweating, choking, and anxiety. These effects begin about 10 - 15 minutes after alcohol enters the body and last for 1 hour or even more. Disulfiram generic is not a remedy for alcohol dependence, but prevents from drinking alcohol.
Do not (drink any alcoholic beverages|take alcoholic drinks} (including beer, wine, and some medications that contain alcohol) while taking antabuse, during the 12-hour period before you take your first dose, and for several weeks after stopping the drug.
Avoid taking vinegars, sauces, and all foods and beverages containing alcohol. |
